Hello Friends!
Oh. My. Goodness!! I did it! Would you like to know what happened? Here it is for those that are interested.
The Story
First, I think I'll start with what happened last night. I laid in bed, trying to sleep, but instead was being blessed with ideas for conversation starters. Those ideas gave me more confidence that I could actually approach someone. I laid there with my heart full of gratitude for this small, but significant way that the Lord knew would help me to succeed.
Here are the highlights from the rest of the story...
- Woke up excited, and a little nervous, to keep this commitment. I felt confident that I would succeed.
- I showed up a little early and sat closer to the front. Normally I sit in the very back.
- A couple of men came and greeted me, at separate times, and each talked to me for a few seconds.
- I didn't think that really counted so I talked to several people after the meeting ended. There was a couple sitting behind me that I talked with and also another couple with small children that I talked with for several minutes...all in Spanish!
- I didn't use any of the ideas that I had last night to start a conversation with, but those ideas gave me the confidence that I could open my mouth and be able to say something.
- It was so exhilarating! This experience has increased my faith in Jesus Christ that He will fill my mouth when I open it.
Another ah-ha...even the ideas to sit up closer and arrive before the meeting started were also ways for me to be able to succeed. These were all small, little changes that I could make and they made such a huge difference! When we receive those ideas we need to act on them. I definitely need to be better at following through with those ideas (promptings) I receive.
I love noticing how we can use the gospel in our every day life...Faith in Jesus Christ, Repentance (turning to the Savior - change), making and keeping covenants (commitments), receiving the Holy Ghost, and enduring well.
Isn't it such a great feeling when you do something, no matter how small, that you have feared for well, any length of time, and have success doing it?! It feels like anything is possible. This would definitely be a great experience to add to my Remember List.
Did you make a commitment to do something? Are you taking the baby steps needed to keep that commitment? I would love to hear your successes!
Love it!!
ReplyDeleteYay, Tiffani! Way to go! That is an inspiring experience.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I was talking with someone who was struggling with some problems, and I didn't tell myself "I don't know what to say to help her." Instead, I had some thoughts come into my mind that I shared that seemed to help. It's a small step but a noticeable one!
Marie,
DeleteThank you for sharing your success! It is such an awesome feeling when you can see improvement with something that you have struggled with. Way to go!
